- CLEARweb Beta 0.5 for Windows
-
- Welcome to the beta test of CLEARweb from CLEAR Software. Our goal is
- to create the best tool possible for collecting, organizing, and
- publishing Internet addresses. Please take the time to let us know
- what you think of the product. You can contact us by e-mail or through
- our website.
-
- ======================================================================
- 1. Important note for users of previous beta test versions
- ======================================================================
- CLEARweb beta 0.5 represents a major overhaul of the product. You
- can find the complete list of changes in the help file. One aspect of
- these changes is the introduction of a new format for the .CWM map files.
- Old .CWM files created in previous versions of CLEARweb cannot be read in
- beta 0.5, and new .CWM files from beta 0.5 cannot be used with old
- versions of CLEARweb.
-
- As part of the installation process of beta 0.5, new .CWM example files
- are placed in the /clearweb/examples directory. Any existing .CWM files
- are moved to a new directory named /clearweb/examples/old.
-
- To rebuild your own .CWM files, you should use the Import menu to
- open the original .CWO version of the file, and then save the file as
- as a .CWM file.

- 3. Installation Instructions
- ======================================================================
- CLEARweb requires a PC compatible running Windows 3.x, Windows NT,
- or Windows 95. The installed version of the program needs 4 megabytes
- of disk space including examples. CLEARweb works with Netscape
- version 1.1 or greater, although version 2.x is recommended.
-
- - CLEARweb is available for downloading in both 16 bit and 32 bit
- versions. The two versions are named CW16Byy.EXE or CW32Byy, where
- yy represents the version number. If you are using Windows 3.x, you
- must download and install the 16 bit CW16Byy.EXE file. Users of
- Windows 95 and Windows NT can use either version.
-
- - The CLEARweb file that you download is a self-extracting file, you
- must run this file to extract the installation files. Then run
- the extracted file SETUP.EXE which will install CLEARweb in its own
- directory, and create icons for the program.
-
- - After CLEARweb is installed on your computer, the Browser Setup
- program will run, and install CLEARweb as a Netscape helper application.
-
- - You will need to run the Browser Setup program each time you install a
- new version of Netscape.
-
- - Finally, you MUST restart Windows after installation to have
- CLEARweb run correctly.
